There were bits of blood dripping down, trying to wipe it on a shrub, scurry over to the pipe where the water flowed from the hard rain. Drink a bit, water feels so good going through wiry hair with a gash above the eye.
I’ve been on this rooftop garden for days or more. My mate gone, my mother gone, picking at red sour things, Mom says not to eat the purple ones. Shivering now from the cold water, dark sky with bits of silver glowing in the distance. Need to find a place to rest away from the other creatures, especially the ones with narrowed eyes and snarls. Away from the moans of the hustle below on the street.
Mom said to make my own in this world – the creatures will help you till you’re fine. I think she went away to die. She was looking weak and needed to find her peace. Become big and grow – how do you become big when creatures with big claws are swiping at your head.
Squirrely says never-mind get away, just give him the red ones, it will match his eyes. I think there’s a tall stump over by the electrical wires, some flying creatures build nests at the top. The mother flies back and forth feeding all day. Mom just fed me a couple of times a day. I wonder where Squirrely is. Whether he disappeared into the street below or scurried over the wires from building to building. He said he’d try to make it back in a few days. Need to avoid the red eyed creature, plus I do not want to share the red ones.
The blood has stopped gushing and I think this place near flower peddles that smell so good, might be a good place to rest. The bees are sleeping or not around. Just about to fall asleep and there’s another creature coming up to me nestling me with its nose and licking me, wagging its tail.
Exhale, just trying to get some sleep – happy to find a new friend – I blink at it, like I’ve seen this before.
